Today was our first FRESH THYME ‘Senior Hour’ grocery shopping trip. Strange as it seems, we anticipated it greatly — the first shopping we had done in over a week. Senior hours were from 6-8 am on Monday-Wednesday-Friday. Both John and I appreciated the fact that seniors were offered the cleanest possible store. We were met at the door with a smile and a clean cart as well as the opportunity to use a fresh spray of antibacterial spray, should we desire it.
As we meandered a bit more quickly than had been our custom, we noticed that there were very few shoppers throughout the store. Even so, if by chance you approached another, you sensed a ‘look over assessment’ being made. In fact, there was an air of defense as if one were being approached by the enemy.
Distancing was definitely being followed! I found myself turning my head away from every one I passed. This could get very distasteful, I thought to myself. As we protect ourselves from sickness are we also being downright unfriendly?
The shelves were strangely empty in several sections of the store. There were no eggs, no toilet paper and many select items were quite limited, none of which were on my list. We had always enjoyed the samples of coffee freely given in the past. Today, that would be a mere memory!
‘Nuf said…we need to check out before the crowd descends. Time for the store to officially open.
