3/28/20 Where is this Going, Lord?

Lyse called to inform us that last nite her coworker, Carol, was taken to ICU.   Lyse’s temperature is still raging.  Thankfully, she is sleeping alot.   With any efforts to be productive, she crashes. Yes, she is drinking alot of fluids—she is dying of thirst.  And yes, she is taking her vitamins!   Where is this going Lord?”

I checked Amazon to see if a thermometer could be sent.  They were out of stock until the middle of April.  I called her local pharmacy and found that THEY were out as well.  Finding an extra digital thermometer that had settled into the back of our bathroom cabinet,  and grabbing a mailing envelope, I announced to John that we had to take a drive to the post office NOW!  She would not receive the mailing before Monday, more likely Tuesday — never-the-less, I had to do SOMETHING!!

March 29 – April 1

Through the next three days, we kept the phone lines buzzing as twice a day we checked in on Lyse to see how she was doing.  Thankfully, she had stocked up on food before the temp hit her.  Her most critical food item was DOG FOOD in her mind!!  Her ‘two beloved’ small canine ponies eat well and frequently.  Lyse was thankful that she had gotten a backup bag of their specialty dog food.  But thankfully, she had also purchased (at my strongly stated suggestion) some necessary basics: eggs, juices, yogurts, berries and the like.  She also claimed to be well stocked in protein drinks which keep her fed when the dogs get the ‘end of month’ budgetary leftovers.

Lyse knew she was still running a fever.  Her body screamed with aches and pains.  She experienced extreme thirst but also diarrhea.  But she had very little cough, only when she layed down.  Calling her doctor’s office, she was told to watch and wait, to treat her symptoms, stay at home and keep the temperature under control with Tylenol, Acetaminophen or Aspirin.  If it were to become difficult to breathe or if her fever get’s too high, then she should go to the ER.

Elyse was miserable!  Describing her symptoms as ‘feeling as if she has been run over by a truck”, she slept most of the time, keeping up with the needs of the dogs as best she could.

How I hate being so far away when one of my family is sick!
