3/12/20 Where has all the TP Gone?

Is this an over-reaction?  There is great concern being expressed about scarcity of medical supplies that would be needed as we waged this battle.  Is it possible that the US is not ready for what is ahead?  Is any of this strictly politics…Republicans or Democrats trying to make the other party look bad?  Still, my calendar had totally cleared.  That has never happened before in my lifetime.

Rumor had it that a trip to Costco would be an adventure.  Everyone was buying up toilet paper!  Only half believing it, I had to see for myself.  Grabbing the essentials we always get at Costco, I made my way to the back of the store to check out the TP aisle.  Sure enough, the shelves were empty, though they had plenty of paper towels.  I decided that in a pinch, a paper towel would be better than nothing, though we could not flush it.  This might indeed become an interesting experiment in ‘making do’.   I typically love those kinds of adventures…but with TP?  Not so sure!  For the first time ever in my experience, the checkout line for Costco wound around all the way through the store with three tributaries leading into the cashier area.

I talked to our daughter, Elyse to see how it was affecting her work as a case worker on the west coast. She reported that it was a bit crazy there as well.  She had heard rumors of only one person − someone she did not know − who was now demonstrating symptoms.   Other than that, the craziness had not touched her world to her knowledge.

I shared that everything was being cancelled in Indy and that our lives were changing quite dramatically. We chatted about ways to boost our immunity and foods to stock up on at the grocery store.  Elyse would be spending time the next day with a co-worker and had work to prepare,  so our conversation was cut short.  She would have more information after work tomorrow and would get back to us.
